Currently, the maximum amount of a covered deposit together with accrued interest to be reimbursed by the Deposit Insurance Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina per depositor per member bank shall be the eligible deposit decreased by the statutory or contracted debt of the depositor toward member bank, up to BAM 70,000.

The decision on changing the amount of the insured deposit is made by the Management Board of the Agency and it is published in the Official Gazette of BiH.

For the payout purpose, all deposits of the depositor in foreign currency are converted into a BAM based on the average exchange rate of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the day of the insurance event (the day of revocation of the bank’s license).

Accrued interest on eligible deposits is accrued only until the day of the insurance event.

If the depositor is the owner of the joint account, the share of each depositor in the joint account shall be calculated equally between the account holders, unless all account holders provide proof to the contrary. The total payment to the joint account is limited to the amount defined by law per one depositor per bank.

Upon notification of the status change, depositors have three months to withdraw or transfer to another bank their eligible deposits, including all accrued interest and fees, if they exceed the coverage level at the time of the transaction, without paying a penalty.
